Chapter 912: Chapter 293: Cheng Long’s Legacy, Life Restarted! (Part 3)
Once the energy supply was in place, Liu Bi pressed the button again.
This time, a clear hydraulic sound came from the roof, and two heavy metal covers slowly flipped open to both sides.
Two folding Fire God Machine Guns rose up slowly with a cold, hard metallic sheen, like the fangs of a lurking beast baring themselves, their muzzles pointed straight ahead, exuding a terrifying ferocity.
At the same time, the floor in front of Cheng Ye suddenly bulged upward, and two metal grips wrapped in anti-slip rubber popped out accordingly, followed by a helmet-shaped observation device descending slowly from the roof.
He instinctively stuck his head into the device, and two clear aiming reticles lit up before his eyes in an instant, with the real-time view from the twin heavy machine guns projected directly onto the lenses, offering a wide field of vision with zero deviation.
And when he gripped the handles and twisted slightly, the roof-mounted machine guns turned in sync at the exact same angle, responding with pinpoint precision.
“You can shoot without sticking your head out of the vehicle?” Cheng Ye’s eyes shone with amazement.
“Of course. This rig is a mobile shelter in its own right.” Liu Bi smacked his lips, his tone tinged with pride. “Even the auto-loading system’s inside the vehicle—no need to expose yourself at all. For this external mission, why don’t we take this one?”
“That’s so over-the-top?” Cheng Ye was slightly stunned. If they could drive this beast into the Wilderness, they’d absolutely be the flashiest guys on the road.
Run into ordinary Infected Bodies or infected sources, they could just roll right over them—no need to waste effort playing cat and mouse.
As for those Hunters in the Wilderness with bad intentions, one look at this armored vehicle armed to the teeth and they’d probably detour a good few meters away, not daring to mess with it lightly.
“What about fuel…”
“There’s still plenty in the checkpoint’s storage. Regular people definitely can’t get approval to draw that much for an external mission, but didn’t Station Chief Ding promise that for this one we could request whatever spec we wanted? Asking for some fuel is nothing.”
Liu Bi didn’t care much. “As long as we’ve got enough to make it to Guang Province, the merchant houses over there have supply routes. Refueling gets a lot easier.”
Cheng Ye’s eyes lit up. “Then we’re driving it out today?”
Liu Bi nodded. “If you want to, of course we can. I’ve still got a good stash of fuel here—enough for two, three hundred kilometers.”
Awesome!
This was basically trading a bird gun for a cannon—going straight from a normal off-roader to a mobile fortress!
Even though he already possessed Extraordinary power, being able to handle this top-tier industrial creation still made it hard for Cheng Ye to suppress the excitement in his chest.
While Liu Bi was refueling the vehicle, he rummaged through the storage box and dug out the user manual for this rig.
[Raptor] was the codename of this armored vehicle.
Since personal ownership of this kind of armed carrier was not allowed inside Happiness City, it had always been registered under the checkpoint’s name, and its movements in and out had to be reported in advance.
Cheng Ye tapped his Defense Communication against the manual’s embedded chip, and the screen immediately jumped to the filing application page.
He casually filled in a reason for an external mission, and in less than a minute the application was approved.
The only conditions were that they could only leave the Buffer Zone after seven in the evening, they were strictly forbidden from lingering in the urban area, and they had to depart from the nearest North Station checkpoint.
Flipping to the last few pages of the manual, he found the detailed vehicle specs:
Length 6.8 meters, width 2.9 meters, height 2.37 meters, with a wheelbase reaching an outrageous 4.5 meters.
Thanks to the use of lightweight Isolation Alloy, the vehicle’s unladen curb weight was only 4.7 tons. Its military-grade reinforced chassis adopted a double-layer alloy beam structure, with a maximum loaded weight of up to 13.5 tons.
The powertrain was a perfect match for the body size, equipped with a 3.0T twin-turbo diesel engine, with a maximum output of 320 horsepower and a peak torque of up to 980 Nm.
With a massive 260L fuel tank paired with the diesel engine’s low fuel consumption, its combined range could reach 950 kilometers.
As for the subsequent four-wheel-drive tech, off-road configuration, differential locks, front and rear axle electronic locking and a whole series of complex terms, Cheng Ye couldn’t quite understand them, but one thing was certain: this vehicle’s off-road capability in the Wilderness far outstripped that of ordinary caravan vehicles.
Its protection was even more hardcore. The body used 27mm-thick Isolation Alloy; the windows were triple-layer composite bulletproof glass. The body could completely ignore hits from 7.62mm rounds, and each window layer could withstand the impact of over three hundred rounds on a single point.
The special all-terrain tires were even more ridiculous— even with a blowout, it could still maintain a speed of 80 km/h for roughly a hundred kilometers.
In addition, the interior housed a simple radar to provide basic fire-control assistance for the Fire God Machine Guns. Combined with the mine-laying device at the rear, a phrase suddenly popped into Cheng Ye’s mind.
A mobile home.
This wasn’t like modern new-energy marketing—cramming a fridge, a couch, and a big TV into a car—but a home that could truly gallop across the Wasteland!
No wonder when the Stand-In Starfish disaster broke out, Liu Bi felt this vehicle could carry him through the encirclement.
If you handed an ordinary person an armored vehicle like this, they’d probably eat, drink, and relieve themselves all inside, reluctant to ever get out.
After reading Raptor’s specs, Cheng Ye took another stroll around the warehouse.
Many odds and ends still bore the logos of various factories from Happiness City’s early days, which he found quite fascinating.
Perhaps even the founders of those factories themselves wouldn’t have deliberately kept these old things.
“Over there are some things Brother Long left behind. You can go take a look.” Liu Bi pulled over a maintenance cart and was about to perform some basic servicing on the vehicle. Seeing Cheng Ye’s interest in the clutter, he pointed at another pile of stuff in the corner.
Cheng Ye followed the direction he pointed, walked over, and squatted down to rummage around for a bit.
They really were just scattered odds and ends. Back when Cheng Long lived at the checkpoint, anything he couldn’t make use of, he’d just hand over to Liu Bi to deal with. Liu Bi had brought all of it back to the warehouse and stored it carefully. He hadn’t even thrown away a few torn calendars, which still faintly bore Cheng Long’s handwriting.
