Chapter 941: Chapter 300: Spacetime Distortion, Life Forbidden Zone!
At this moment, Cheng Ye clicked on the first video, and the progress bar of Defense Communication crawled at a snail’s pace. Until Cheng Ye was almost impatient, the screen finally lit up slowly.
What appeared before him was a sunset scene similar to that of Dapo Town at this moment.
The sun hung on the distant horizon, and the sky was clear with no clouds, yet the star that should have been blazing bright carried an indescribable gloom.
The light was so dim it seemed veiled by a thin layer of haze, lacking the afternoon intensity, and instead appeared as though it had exhausted its energy, gradually falling towards the horizon, readying to sink into the night.
The camera lingered on the sun at the horizon for a few seconds, then a figure suddenly entered the frame from the right side.
Yu Erlan was holding another Defense Communication device, the time on the screen was clear and piercing:
[New Era Year 35, October 1, 14:27]
It was yesterday’s video, which finally transmitted back to Happiness City through the alliance network today.
“What, this is the scene at two o’clock in the afternoon?”
Cheng Ye’s pupils contracted suddenly, causing a storm in his heart.
If it was cloudy weather blocking the sunlight, that would be understandable, but the video clearly showed a cloudless sunny day, without a hint of cloud cover to obscure the light.
Even more bizarre was that this dimness was not caused by some material obstructing the light, but rather it seemed the sun’s operation was amiss, reaching the “sunset critical point” ahead of time, prematurely casting this land into darkness.
After reviewing the first video multiple times, Cheng Ye moved the progress bar back and forth to confirm, then opened the second one.
From the thumbnail, it was clear that it took place in a conference room, and after loading, it turned out to be the temporary experimental zone of the Firewood Alliance established in the Flower Province.
Yu Erlan rotated the Defense Communication device and the camera swept across the room: over a hundred attendees both old and young, all wearing solemn expressions.
Judging from the angle, Yu Erlan was likely sitting in the third or fourth row, unaware of who were the industry leaders sitting in front.
At the moment, a bald middle-aged man was on stage giving a speech; his voice was steady but couldn’t hide his gravity: “We have already released detectors, and the distortion index is continuously climbing. The propagation path of light throughout the Flower Province is being forcibly elongated by the distortion, requiring photons longer travel time to reach the ground, causing a disconnection between the visually perceived sun and the actual sun position. Furthermore, based on the inverse square law of distance, the increased distance leads to a gradual decline in ground light flux, with the current decline rate around 21.73%.”
“The stretching of space-time induces Doppler redshift, causing wavelengths of light waves to elongate and shift toward the red end. If the distortion index continues to increase in the future, the redshift phenomenon will become more severe.”
“We are currently tracing back to the origin of the distortion, and these are the current research findings…”
At this point, the bald man coughed lightly twice, “Please turn off your communication devices. The next information needs to remain confidential temporarily to prevent external panic. Please comply with the research regulations of the Firewood Alliance and when it’s time to disclose, we will allow you to transmit the information back to Shelter City for early warning and preparation.”
After his words ended, the video abruptly stopped.
Yet Cheng Ye’s heart was somewhat unnerved, with the word “distortion” repeatedly echoing in his mind.
Was it the kind of space-time distortion seen atop Mount Everest when searching for Yu Yong?
Scrolling down the group chat, after the videos were released, the research institute was utterly boiling.
Even though the core information was not disclosed, everyone was already speculating various theories.
Sunlight should travel in a straight line through three-dimensional space to reach the Earth, but if distortion twists the space, the light’s trajectory forms complex curves, effectively increasing the propagation distance.
This explains why Flower Province’s days have become shorter, with extended propagation routes resulting in a continual decrease in daily ground light flux.
Cheng Ye scrolled for a while but didn’t expect the lower discussions to become increasingly professional and obscure, so he stood up, the drowsiness that was brewing in his mind completely vanished, and he went downstairs to look for Yu Yong.
According to the usual routine, Yu Yong should still be on Diversion Island at this time, but after training with Liu Bi for the past two days, it’s as if he’s become a different person, except during training, he stays in his room tinkering with something.
Knock, knock.
“Come in.” Yu Yong’s voice came from inside the room.
Cheng Ye pushed the door open, only to see him shirtless, practicing a standard horse stance on the ground, concentrating on his breathing.
A stream of air swirled around Yu Yong, somewhat reminiscent of the Celestial Human Martial Domain, but upon closer inspection, it’s evident that it’s an extraordinary force belonging to the infection source.
“The video from Flower Province has been transmitted back. Do you want to watch it?” Cheng Ye raised the Defense Communication device in his hand.
Unexpectedly, Yu Yong shook his head, “The arrival of Eternal Night is inevitable; Firewood long had a corresponding plan, I don’t need to watch.”
“You should take a look first,” Cheng Ye insisted.
“Pass it here.” Yu Yong extended his hand and, after taking the Defense Communication device, his gaze fixed on the screen.
When watching the first video, his expression slightly changed, taking on a hint of seriousness.
But after watching the second one, he instead became calm, exhaling a long breath.
“Since Director Fang has gone, there will definitely be results.”
“Director Fang?” Cheng Ye inquired curiously upon reclaiming the Defense Communication device.
“Fang Ming, a special researcher of the Firewood, leading the research group specializing in space-time distortion,” Yu Yong evaluated, “Although he tends to show off, his expertise is indeed top-notch. With him in charge, you can rest assured.”
After speaking, he then pointed at the second video and changed his tone: “But a single region experiencing Eternal Night is not enough to affect the ecology of the entire planet. The real threat lies in those special creatures that appear in the night. They are the disaster humans will face, not merely the celestial anomalies.”
“Special creatures?” Cheng Ye blinked.
It seems the obscured part of the second video pertains to the so-called special creatures.
“I’m only a level four researcher, and not privy to everything. Detailed information about anomalies within Firewood is top-secret amongst secrets; I even suspect…”
At this point, Yu Yong’s tone paused and didn’t continue to share his suspicions.
He straightened himself, donned a sweatshirt, and said solemnly:
“Stone Province is currently safe, at least for now. When your grandfather chose to root here, he must have observed some key information. And those special natural anomalies will not erupt from nothing; they will start spreading from those already chaotic and disordered zones. Many normal regions that humans can still tread and rely on for survival today will gradually fall into the Red Zone, Black Zone, and eventually become life-prohibited zones under the erosion of distortion.”
“But you must understand, danger comes gradually. These celestial distortions act like eviction notices, offering a window of evacuation for those who remain clear-headed and understand how to choose wisely. Only those insatiably greedy who stubbornly cling to their existing interests until the end become the casualties of this disaster.”
“The problem,” he continued, “is that secure areas will only dwindle, while the human population won’t suddenly decline. When one day, a massive influx of outsiders starts rushing into Stone Province seeking refuge, true peril will accompany it.”
