Chapter 860: Chapter 281: Dabo Canned Food Factory, the Unlucky Yu Yong! (3)
After all, an inspector who has never been on field duty might be clever, but how could his experience compare to someone like him who has ventured everywhere in the Fourth-Phase?
“Huh? Are we not going to continue the tour?” Hou Genbao was stunned for a moment.
“We’ll tour later; now we need to find him on Diversion Island.” Niu Fu stepped forward and repeated.
Hou Genbao felt even more uneasy but did not dare to say much, only keeping his mind alert.
These two were too purposeful and had not fully proven their identities, so it was hard to guarantee they were not outsiders sneaking in to cause trouble.
Once they stepped outside, Hou Genbao used an excuse to leave and hurriedly sent someone to verify with Inspector Luokuke.
With just a phone call, he received the definite answer, which finally set his mind at ease.
“Inspector Liu, this way!”
Crossing the wall, there was still nearly three hundred meters to the dock at the riverbank from here.
According to the plan, this place would continue to shrink inward until a port area was left.
However, those are things many years down the line; currently, there’s neither funding nor a need to waste time.
Eventually, when a port is needed, the structures built in Dapo Town would undoubtedly be demolished and reconstructed, which is why current buildings utilize steel-framed factories and portable houses to minimize future demolition costs.
The roads built here are also for preliminary use; the future Dapo Town is sure to follow the plans of Wenlu County, building large and comprehensive ones, rather than small and beautiful ones like the Inner City.
At the dock’s drainage outlet, five small wooden boats were moored.
Liu Bi didn’t board immediately but bent down, touching the battle traces on the dock.
The cleanup crew had completely removed all traces of pollution within the cracked blue bricks without leaving a shred behind.
However, the fragmented path still vaguely indicated a fierce battle had erupted here.
And it wasn’t between humans, but monsters.
“Old Niu, come and take a look…”
Liu Bi called for Niu Fu to stand before him, attempting to reconstruct the traces.
If Cheng Ye were standing here now, he would immediately notice that Liu Bi’s position was the same as where he stood then, and Niu Fu’s was where the crab Fusion Body stood.
After restoring the positions, Liu Bi looked down at the large crack underfoot, growing more startled.
The footprint felt at least three to five times larger than his, and the force was terrifyingly non-human, capable of cracking sturdy blue bricks and even affecting the concrete foundation below.
As for Niu Fu’s standing position, it was even more extensively cracked, and the magnitude was at least three or four meters.
“These traces…” Liu Bi contemplated while looking at Hou Genbao.
“They were here when we arrived!” Hou Genbao replied instantly without thinking. “The dock here needs reconstruction later, so the traces haven’t been fixed for now.”
“They were here when you arrived?” Liu Bi nodded slightly, feeling reassured.
If monsters were circling near Dapo Town, the corps would need to assemble to maintain order.
But since the traces are so obvious and Dapo Town can still be built, the issues should be manageable.
They boarded the small boat, with Hou Genbao initially intending to row.
Unexpectedly, Niu Fu took the oars, rowing so fast that shadows appeared, scarily fast.
Furthermore, strong streams of air burst from his nose and mouth with every breath, and the oppressive aura was even stronger than Long’s!
Expert!
Definitely an expert!
In his early years in the Pioneer Corps, he had encountered many experts.
But such fierce and vigorous vitality like that of Niu Fu was a first.
The small boat approached Diversion Island, where a spot for temporarily berthing boats had been established.
Niu Fu brought the boat close, and the three went ashore.
Post-summer flood season had passed, with more of Diversion Island emerging, extending nearly three kilometers in length and over two kilometers wide, totaling a staggering six square kilometers.
It might not suffice for residential buildings, but it’s more than adequate to construct a research institute.
Perhaps due to long-term river inundation, the soil on the island was exceptionally soft, slightly sandy, leaving deep footprints when stepped on.
“Researcher Yu is usually at the island’s end, from this direction…” Hou Genbao pointed backward.
But before he finished speaking, Liu Bi squatted down, his face turning grim.
“Are you sure there’s only one entrance to the island?”
“Of course, we’ve only opened this entrance, the rest will wait until Engineer Lin’s plans are ready to proceed.” Hou Genbao replied without a second thought.
“When did that Researcher Yu come to the island?”
“Should be around nine in the morning, that’s when Inspector Cheng left, after talking to Researcher Yu in town, then Researcher Yu went to the island again, but he prefers going alone, rowing a small boat himself.” Hou Genbao pointed to another moored wooden boat at the temporary dock, “It’s this boat!”
“Morning… so did it rain today?”
“No, it didn’t.”
“Then why are there no footprints left on the ground?” Liu Bi pointed to the large footprints the trio had just left.
While many footprints crowded the entrance to the island, it was clear they had been there for some time.
Not a single fresh footprint was found.
“No footprints?” Hou Genbao was taken aback, crouching down to look before scratching his head, “I…I don’t know?”
Liu Bi stood up, casting his gaze towards the distant part of Diversion Island, suddenly saying, “Old Niu, go back and get the stuff from the car.”
“Get all of them, or…?”
“Bring the whole set over; didn’t expect as soon as we left the industrial area, the two of us would need to work again.”
