Chapter 843: Chapter 277: Subduing Yu Yong, Mission Accomplished!
Enter from the D entrance at South Station.
Responsible for inspection was a familiar face, Zhao Jia, whom I had networked with before.
Since he hadn’t passed the assessment, the third batch of Satellite City construction hadn’t started, so Zhao Jia could only remain in the Buffer Zone to continue his duties.
Seeing Cheng Ye get out from the passenger seat, covered in mud stains, shoes wrapped in a layer of mud shell, face full of hidden fatigue.
Zhao Jia hesitated a moment, then couldn’t help but smile wryly, “Inspector Cheng, you really are… travel-worn!”
“No choice, Satellite City is just starting up, work is piling up one after another.” Cheng Ye yawned as he spoke, skillfully picked up the inspection instrument, reported the count, and casually asked:
“Nothing happened in the Buffer Zone these days, right?”
“Nothing major.” Zhao Jia paused, his face slightly darkening, “It’s just the Security and Integrity Bureau people are particularly arrogant lately, harassing us here every few days.”
“Aren’t they not officially organized yet?”
“Precisely because they’re not organized, they dare to so brazenly break rules.” Zhao Jia said helplessly, “Once the bureau is officially established, they’ll have to follow the rules, otherwise they’ll be held accountable.”
“Thanks for your hard work.” Cheng Ye nodded slightly, not asking any more.
Still had Mu Shuang stay to disinfect the vehicle and submit the contained infection sources.
These infection sources, although stripped of characteristics, still hold certain research value, and the research institute can handle them properly, much safer than burying them outdoors.
Cheng Ye was in no rush to leave the inspection station, intending to first go to the bathing room in District D for a hot shower. Cannot meet people covered in mud, lest they mistake Inspector Cheng as a refugee.
But after walking a few steps, before entering District D, two tall figures came walking side by side.
It’s… Qin Zhaoye.
Cheng Ye stopped, squinted his eyes, and scanned the person beside Qin Zhaoye.
This figure was half a head taller than Qin Zhaoye, almost level with him, shoulders and back broad like a moving wall.
Still not wearing any formal attire, the upper body was a black sleeveless vest, biceps wrapped with several loops of fine iron chains, skin bronzed, covered in varying depths of knife scars, like battle marks.
The lower body was a pair of camouflage work pants, pant legs casually tucked into high-top boots, a curved knife slung diagonally at the waist.
Short hair messy like grass, fringe covering half an eye, face looking quite cold.
Is this guy really obsessed with me?
These two certainly didn’t come coincidentally, likely planted informants on Dapo Town or Wenlu County route, knowing in advance about my return.
Cheng Ye sneered internally, simply crossed his arms, wanting to see what tricks these two planned to play.
As the figures approached, their eyes flashed with undisguised mockery.
Especially Qin Zhaoye, after scanning up and down, sneered, “Inspector Cheng, your outfit is quite unique.”
“Do you know what to call me today?” Cheng Ye’s tone was flat.
“Of course, Inspector Cheng is quite prestigious, who in the Buffer Zone doesn’t know your name?” Qin Zhaoye’s face hung with a smile, surprisingly calmer than last time, seemingly a different person.
“Anything?” Cheng Ye raised an eyebrow, “If not, I’m going for a shower.”
“Nothing major, just here to introduce someone.” Qin Zhaoye nodded, stepping aside to reveal the person behind him, “This is the Director of the Integrity Office, Shen Chongshan. Director Shen is interested in some aspects of you, wants to invite you to the Integrity Office for a chat.”
“Oh, another director?” Cheng Ye chuckled, with a hint of mockery, “Are you organized?”
“Inspector Cheng, indulging in verbal sparring won’t do you any good.”
Shen Chongshan’s lips moved slightly, voice indifferent without any warmth, “If you’re willing to go with me to the Integrity Office now to prove your innocence, some problems might be mitigated. But if you insist on pointless resistance, once matters are clear and publicized, it would severely damage the station’s image.”
“Is that so?”
Cheng Ye shrugged indifferently, “I guess your next line is you’re a Source Binder, not afraid of me?”
“Hehe.” Shen Chongshan chuckled softly, reaching to expose the empty left eye socket.
Not exactly empty.
In his eye socket flowed ink-like black liquid, constantly forming and changing, writhing as if alive.
If he hadn’t seen Elder Zeng’s black-hole eyes, Cheng Ye might’ve been shocked, but now only found Shen Chongshan’s version lowly, even somewhat amusing.
“Oh, looks like you indeed have special resistance to spiritual contamination…”
Seeing Cheng Ye’s unchanged expression, Shen Chongshan covered the left eye again with hair.
“Given your contribution to Happiness City, we indeed can’t do anything to you, but you need to understand, your attitude is affecting other inspectors at the station. Even if we can’t find any problem with you, can you assure none of them have issues?”
“If you lead by example, encouraging others to come forward voluntarily, I can promise, whether now or later, as long as you don’t cross the line, any trivial issues won’t be recorded by the Integrity Bureau.”
He glanced at Qin Zhaoye, then back at Cheng Ye, “Do you want to be friends with us, or enemies? Inspector Cheng, you’re a smart man, know how to choose.”
“Finished talking?”
Cheng Ye’s expression remained unchanged, tone emotionless, “I’m going for a shower. Next time, don’t waste my time with such nonsense.”
With that, he turned and walked toward the shower room in District D, not bothering to look at them again.
