Chapter 824: Chapter 271: Cataclysmic Transformation, Pandora’s Box!
Hoo…
Hoo…
The heavy breathing gradually became clear at his ears, like a faint beam of light splitting through the darkness.
Cheng Ye slowly opened his eyes, his pupils narrowing as his sight reflected the familiar ceiling.
Familiar?
He was momentarily stunned, as fuzzy memories quickly flooded back, instantaneously analyzing his current location…
This is… back to the tenth floor ward of Rebirth Medical?
He sat up in shock, and sure enough, both his arms were turned into pincushions, IV lines slowly delivering nutrients.
Luokuke was sitting by the window, the radio turned down low, and upon hearing the commotion, he immediately spun his wheelchair around.
“You’re finally awake.”
Looking at Cheng Ye’s bewildered expression, Luokuke laughed wordlessly, “Really? I haven’t even been discharged yet, and you’re back in here?”
“I…”
Cheng Ye squinted his eyes, his gaze landing on the exposed skin of Luokuke’s leg, which seemed hardly different from a normal leg, showing a healthy flesh color, “Have you completed the transplant?”
“Yes, it was done five days ago, but I still need to be observed for two more days before I can be discharged.” Luokuke nodded.
“What’s the date today?”
“September 7th, you were brought in on the 5th at noon, and now it’s the morning of the 7th.”
Hoo…
Receiving a definitive answer, Cheng Ye let out a long breath of relief.
Fortunately, this time he didn’t sleep away an entire week; he genuinely lay here for just two days before recovering.
With no anxiety from time constraints, he simply lay back down, spacing out for a moment.
Waiting for the confusion in his mind to gradually fade, he finally spoke: “The situation outside is quite complicated now, if you get discharged, head directly to Dapo Town, it’s safe there.”
“I know, Zhou Changhai defected.” Luokuke turned off the radio, speaking softly, “The Prosecutor is actually the position most susceptible to infiltration; the people and environment we deal with are too complex. Even for me, over the years I’ve come across no fewer than a dozen or twenty extremist organizations.”
“These extremist organizations aren’t inherently evil, they’re not on the same level as those evil organizations. Their goal is to recreate an Extraordinary Era, but their methods are too extreme, so they need to constantly recruit people to work toward that goal together.”
“So you know about the Starship?” Cheng Ye curiously asked.
“No.” Luokuke quickly shook his head, “The Starship can no longer be considered an extremist organization. Actively causing the infection that led to tens of thousands dying in Yueye Shelter City, their actions are basically defined as the evil camp, the enemy of humanity, which isn’t on any similar level to extremist organizations.”
“Hmm…” Cheng Ye nodded lightly.
Luokuke changed the topic with a slightly gossiping smile: “I heard you have obtained core prosecutor permissions?”
Cheng Ye chuckled: “You’re staying in Rebirth Medical, yet your information seems quite up-to-date.”
“Of course!” Luokuke immediately became excited upon Cheng Ye’s indirect confirmation, “How could I not look into such a major event? These core permissions are virtually equivalent to the Station Chief, you have the right to attend any meeting, can facilitate checkpoint policy implementations, and can mobilize a certain amount of public resources, even directly issuing field missions, recruiting other prosecutors for execution…”
Speaking of the intricacies of core permissions, Luokuke rattled on endlessly without stopping.
Cheng Ye listened for a while, unable to help laughing: “But I’m still a Phase One prosecutor.”
“What’s wrong with being a Phase One?” Luokuke thought nothing of it, “The phase limit is set for ordinary people, obtaining core permissions is akin to taking another path of advancement, you’re on a completely different track from ordinary prosecutors, if you ask me…”
Luokuke was still babbling, while Cheng Ye smiled and listened, suddenly having a thought:
If he knew that I would be heading to Yueye Shelter City to become Station Chief next year, how would this guy react?
But since this matter isn’t fully settled yet, and because there’s still a ton of issues at the checkpoint to address, it’s likely better to synchronize these things with others around him once everything stabilizes.
The two chatted idly for a while longer, until the ward door was pushed open and Cui Qiao entered with several medical personnel.
She squinted and smiled: “Prosecutor Cheng, we meet again.”
“Why, you don’t seem at all surprised that I’m back here?” Cheng Ye raised an eyebrow.
“You’re just like your father, once you come in, you become a regular here.” Cui Qiao teased.
“…”
Cheng Ye was suddenly speechless, looking a bit embarrassed.
But to be honest, he’s indeed reluctant to miss a good opportunity to enhance his skills, even if it comes at some cost.
“How many contribution points did I use this time?” He changed the subject.
“Not much, twelve thousand points, it’s all been noted under the research institute’s account.”
“Well, that’s good.” Cheng Ye breathed a sigh of relief. If each hospital stay cost tens of thousands, a few more visits would likely deplete the research institute’s funds.
“Can I be discharged now?”
“Anytime.”
“Great, please handle the paperwork, I’d like to leave now.” Cheng Ye nodded, ready to get up once the medical personnel removed the needles.
After taking a shower and changing clothes, he didn’t linger for much small talk with Luokuke.
The Ghost Shadow Spider’s enhancements aren’t complete yet, at least another two days of “hospitalization” are needed.
Before the reception personnel from Firewood arrived, he had to quickly conclude the matter regarding Yu Yong, in order to free up time to focus on Dapo Town’s construction and field tasks.
The car drove out of Rebirth Medical’s underground space and headed directly to the research institute.
Shi Xu had already received news and was waiting at the entrance. Seeing him looking energetic, he couldn’t help but advise: “Prosecutor Cheng, you really don’t have to push yourself so hard.”
“It’s just two days of sleep, how’s that pushing it?”
