Chapter 805: Chapter 266: Yue Ye Deputy Stationmaster, Wisdom of the Fifth Generation!
The deputy station master of North Station, Davidson, is indeed quite capable.
Four lanes, six lanes, eight lanes… Raul does have three brothers.
Cheng Ye immediately picked up the implication—how wide the road could be depended on how many chips he could throw in.
Agreeing to let one brother into the inspection station meant four lanes, and to secure two more lanes might require an additional spot.
For other inspectors, this vote might be dispensable, but as the future stationmaster of Yueye Shelter City, he hasn’t yet appointed any inspectors.
Even if after the deal Raul’s three brothers couldn’t all be promoted, this could still be used as leverage to secure their future deployment to Yueye, seen as an early preparation of personnel.
“How long will it take to build this road?” Cheng Ye asked.
“Fifteen days!” Raul replied with determined certainty, “Counting from tomorrow, the project will take no more than fifteen days. I can deploy six construction teams simultaneously, and the main road of Wenlu County is complete, with all the heavy equipment idle. The eight-kilometer stretch will be divided into six segments for simultaneous construction, achieving maximum efficiency!”
In half a month it’ll be done?
Cheng Ye was slightly taken aback, nodding silently to himself.
Unexpectedly, the time delayed by the Immortal Objects turned out to be advantageous.
The original roads in Dapo Town were already destroyed; debris had to be cleared, followed by laying the foundation, base, and surface layers consecutively, with only five days allocated for each. This speed was unbelievably fast even by modern standards.
Yet, thinking back on the unprecedented changes in Wenlu County over the past month, such efficiency seemed fitting.
“Alright, I understand.”
Cheng Ye nodded slightly without giving a definitive answer.
What surprised him more was that Raul seemed to have already anticipated this outcome and calmly nodded, “Inspector Cheng, I’ve arranged for someone to wait for you at the inspection station exit to take you to see Inspector Lin.”
“Hm?” Cheng Ye was genuinely surprised.
As a newcomer to Wenlu County, it made sense to first pay respects to Lin Bao, the Eastern inspector, before negotiating with Davidson.
Raul’s precise handling of this showed a level of social finesse that surpassed many First-Stage and Second-Stage Inspectors.
However, Cheng Ye didn’t say much more, just signaled with a glance, and Raul immediately pressed the door button to let the convoy pass.
The convoy drove out of the inspection station, where at the exit, sure enough, a man was waiting on a motorcycle.
It happened to be an acquaintance, the Western officer ‘Link’ assigned to him during last month’s assessment for gathering refugees.
“Inspector Cheng, we meet again.” Link greeted with a smile, gesturing at the road layout, “From here straight ahead is Davidson’s oversight area, primarily responsible for infrastructure construction, road crews, material distribution, and warehouse management under his coordination.”
“To the right is Zhou Changhai’s area, overseeing architectural planning and the construction progress of the entire Wenlu County under his control. The left is Lin Bao’s area, in charge of personnel movement and management, dealing with nearly a hundred thousand people’s relocation needs in Wenlu County.”
As the officer assigned by Raul to welcome him, he naturally knew what to say in advance.
Without any superfluous introductions, Link made the power structure of Wenlu County crystal clear through role delineation alone.
Lin Bao was the core among the Eastern People, managing personnel allocation, while Davidson was the representative among Westerners, handling material distribution.
Belonging to different factions, they naturally had conflicting interests, and a person with a “cross-identity” was needed at the inspection station to buffer the tension.
Zhou Changhai, being an Eastern Person who sided with Westerners, wasn’t fully accepted by Lin Bao and found it hard to earn absolute trust from Davidson due to his local origin. This “neither side” position meant he couldn’t form alliances during conflicts and relied solely on inspection station arrangements.
“Old Ding has seen through Zhou Changhai’s opportunism and lack of stance, knowing he wouldn’t proactively ally with any faction to upset the balance?”
On the way to meet Lin Bao in the Western Zone, this thought flashed through Cheng Ye’s mind but he didn’t ponder it further.
The power division in Wenlu County wouldn’t be settled until construction was complete, and by then, he would have already left for Yueye as stationmaster, without getting involved in these discordances.
Rather than contemplating Ding Yishan’s balancing strategies, he preferred to seize the immediate benefits.
With an Elder backing up, no one in Dapo Town could interfere, ensuring no worries about power infiltration.
The car drove another two kilometers, nearing the boundary when a three-story corridor building came into view, with a sign reading “Wenlu County Personnel Management Office” hanging over the entrance.
What astonished Cheng Ye was that Lin Bao was personally waiting at the building entrance, with a cigarette clasped in one hand and rapidly tapping on the Defense Communication device with the other.
As the convoy approached, Lin Bao lifted his head, his face breaking into a gratifying smile.
As soon as the car stopped, Lin Bao swaggered forward.
Compared to last month, Lin Bao looked noticeably more haggard, with bluish stubble covering his chin and temples like unkempt wild grass, exuding fatigue.
Heavy dark circles hung under his eyes, and his once sharp eyes were now veiled with a gray mist, losing their sharp edge.
Even his jacket was wrinkled, with dirt and grime at the edges, resembling more a weary foreman than a Fifth-Stage Inspector.
“Young Cheng, you finally made it, Uncle Lin has been waiting here for you for an hour.”
“Uncle Lin, you’re waiting for me so earnestly, but I didn’t bring any gifts.” Cheng Ye replied, opening the car door and stepping out, bending slightly and casually patting off the white dust from Lin Bao’s shoulder.
