Chapter 803: Chapter 265: Lavish Wenlu County, Davidson’s Deal! (Part 2)
Cheng Ye sat up straight, rolled down the window of the passenger seat, and carefully examined this rapidly rising satellite city.
The road was newly paved with asphalt concrete, so black and shiny that it could reflect the flowing clouds in the sky. It was wide enough for eight lanes, separated in the middle by a half-meter high green belt, with young pine saplings not yet fully rooted, exuding the moist scent of freshly turned soil.
The sidewalks on both sides had already taken shape, covered with light gray permeable bricks, with a few stubborn wild grasses sporadically sprouting through the gaps, trimmed neatly and not at all undermining the overall sense of order.
Every fifty meters stood a solar street lamp identical in design to those on the overpasses, with a simple and sleek design. The lamp poles were made of silver-gray alloy, with a solid concrete base at the bottom, stable even against the wild winds of the wilderness.
However, they seemed to be not yet powered, the lamp heads hanging quietly, like soldiers lined up in readiness, silently guarding this road leading to civilization.
Cheng Ye’s eyes moved from the road to the roadside, where rows of portable cabins were neatly arranged.
Although the residential areas of Wenlu County did not use portable cabins, these outside construction teams and personnel responsible for patrols needed temporary accommodations.
The construction cycle for concrete buildings was too long, making portable cabins the safest choice for the moment.
The exterior walls of the cabins were uniformly painted light blue, with roofs covered in colored steel tiles. Each house was equipped with standardized doors and windows, with simple doorplates hanging at the entrances, indicating the serial numbers of construction teams. Occasionally, one could see signs like “Regional Material Management Office” and “Temporary Medical Point.”
The empty spaces between the cabins were developed into simple parking lots and activity areas, with several engineering vehicles orderly parked. Alongside stood a row of silver charging piles.
Identical to the ones on the pedestrian streets.
According to the color coding rule of Happiness City, the power of such silver charging piles should only be 60kw. Obviously, the main line from Happiness City had already been pre-laid here, rather than being slowly extended from the industrial zone, indicating the high priority of infrastructure in Wenlu County.
As the vehicle continued moving forward, the overall outline of the satellite city of Wenlu County became increasingly clear.
In the core area in the distance, several high-rise buildings were taking shape, with the skeletons of reinforced concrete structures rising from the ground. The tallest was visually estimated to exceed ten stories, with the tower crane at the top still operating slowly, the jib drawing steady arcs in the sky, continuously delivering rebar, cement, and other materials to the construction site.
The road network among the buildings had already formed, like a giant chessboard, dividing the satellite city into distinct functional blocks.
Even though Cheng Ye had not seen the construction plans for Wenlu County, he could vaguely feel that the specifications here were definitely more “modernized” than those in the Buffer Zone, or even the Inner City.
The key reason is that Wenlu County is the product of Happiness City’s strategic expansion during a specific cycle, after accumulating enough strength.
When the New Era had just begun, the Inner City was struggling with construction, with various materials barely pieced together to meet demands, leading the Inner City to resemble a small yet beautiful county model.
But now, Wenlu County instantly presented a “large and comprehensive” city-scale, showcasing everywhere the current power and confidence of Happiness City.
The convoy traveled three kilometers, and the roadside scenery gradually transitioned from temporary facilities to semi-permanent buildings.
Several steel-structured plant buildings had already been topped out, with huge factory doors open, revealing large machinery being installed inside, with the crisp sound of metal colliding faintly heard, exuding a vibrant production atmosphere.
Beside the factory buildings, the supporting substation and sewage treatment station were also being constructed briskly, with blue protective nets surrounding the entire construction area. The red banner reading “Safety First, Quality Foremost” flapped conspicuously in the wind.
The landscaping at the roadside also became more organized, featuring not only the previously seen pine saplings but also many drought-resistant shrubs and flowers. Although not yet lush, the well-arranged layout already showed traces of careful planning.
“Who did the planning for Wenlu County?” Cheng Ye turned back to ask.
“Engineer Xi Yan’s team was responsible,” Mu Shuang replied without hesitation. “He is the deputy director of the Inner City’s Public Works Bureau. Wenlu County’s planning had long been prepared, so it’s advancing so quickly now.”
“Xi Yan…” Cheng Ye muttered the name quietly.
Given that Happiness City hasn’t expanded on a large scale for more than ten years, it’s not surprising that these engineers are restless and prepared regional plans in advance.
But to have planned Wenlu County to its current level, this Xi Yan must be truly remarkable, surely no less competent than his own graduate school advisor.
Impressive!
Perhaps I should find some time to meet him and personally “learn” more about architectural knowledge suited for the wasteland environment from this “big name.”
As the convoy moved on, a completed inspection station came into view, with a sign reading “Wenlu North Inspection Station” hanging over its entrance.
It was significantly larger than the entrance guard post, with its main structure assembled from thickened steel plates, coated in corrosion-resistant black paint, shimmering with a forbidding metallic sheen.
The inspection station spanned across the entire eight-lane road, leaving only two passageways in the middle, each equipped with a hydraulic crash barrier, bulky like an adult’s thigh, with the base hydraulic mechanisms faintly visible.
On each side stood a three-story observation tower, surrounded by high-definition cameras and infrared detectors, with lenses slowly rotating with the movement of the convoy, ensuring full surveillance without any blind spots.
