Wasteland Border Inspector - Chapter 791
Chapter 791: Chapter 262: Self-Amputation and Major Development Shift!
“That’s fortunate, I’m glad I didn’t go with you.” Matthew Lee patted his chest and then sighed before his tone changed. “But things haven’t been peaceful on my end either, we’ve been attacked by infection sources every other day… damn it, just our luck!”
After complaining, he quickly switched gears: “After running around all day, your car must be out of power, right? We’ve connected the circuit to the industrial zone, and the charging stations are all set up, all 120kW high-voltage piles, hurry up and drive your car in to charge.”
The words were barely out.
Cheng Ye was taken aback for a moment. In the previous satellite towns he visited, the hosts always offered water and rest first. He didn’t expect that upon arriving at Dongping Town, the first thing Matthew Lee would mention was charging, which was truly fascinating.
He didn’t expect that upon arriving at Dongping Town, Matthew Lee would first invite him to charge, which was truly fascinating.
But thinking about it, he jokingly said with a smile, “Wait a minute, are these charging piles specifically prepared for our convoy?”
“Heh heh,” Matthew Lee laughed somewhat cryptically, “On our own turf, we must prioritize serving our own development; otherwise, it’s a waste of resources.”
“Song Hai actually agreed to this?” Cheng Ye gave a thumbs up.
“He couldn’t do anything about it if he didn’t agree.” Matthew Lee gave a sidelong smile, “I split the budget in half with him, the north side of Dongping Town is mine, the south is his, each doing our own thing, not interfering with each other.”
“North and south?” Cheng Ye peered inside through the crude town gate and finally saw that Dongping Town was indeed distinctively divided.
On Matthew Lee’s side, everything was designed to imitate the industrial zone’s large warehouse layout, organized and open, while the south area where Song Hai was working looked like the previous satellite towns he had seen, building concrete high-rises, with the tallest reaching three stories, construction sites spread everywhere, two completely different styles, offering a real eye-opener.
As he walked into the town, Cheng Ye paused again.
The ground beneath his feet was all paved with cement, and drainage slopes were carefully made, completely unlike other satellite towns that still used gravel and mud, or retained some old era road infrastructure.
“The first thing I did when I got here was to repair the underground pipe networks and harden the roads.”
Matthew Lee explained as he walked, his tone full of feeling, “I was really disgusted by the stench of sewage in the buffer zone. Over the past month or so, I’ve mainly done three things: first, connect the circuit to the industrial zone, second, prioritize laying down the infrastructure, and third, negotiate with people from the industrial zone to divert some industries over here.”
Entering the town’s interior, a familiar feeling washed over.
On an empty plot at one end of the town, rows of prefabricated houses stood neatly in formation, row after row, looking especially tidy.
Matthew Lee’s face was full of pride, “Prefabricated houses are cheap and practical, with more than two thousand people following me, and in just over ten days, everyone was accommodated, without suffering in tents. It rained a few times recently, but no one got sick from being drenched.”
“So how do you plan to handle winter?”
“Of course, that depends on you figuring it out.” Matthew Lee raised an eyebrow, looking completely justified, “Isn’t your Dapo Town also using prefabricated houses? You solve the heating issue, and I’ll just copy it here.”
“Impressive!” Cheng Ye was genuinely convinced.
Compared to other conservative third-phase inspectors, Matthew Lee was definitely an outlier.
His pragmatic approach didn’t look like he was honestly building a satellite city.
His flexible style involved building factories and using prefabricated houses, without considering the consequences at all.
But I must say, the way Matthew Lee handled it, it indeed left Cheng Ye with a mix of surprise and delight, especially after touring the previous towns. Standing here now, he felt particularly pleased.
Leaving the residential area, the two came to a factory zone.
A dozen charging piles were lined up in a row, all installed and calibrated, ready to charge at the plug of a gun.
“Now, under the support of the industrial zone, charging before winter comes is heavily discounted here, about 5 points per kWh, so charge whatever you want! If the convoy runs out of power, come over here to refuel and save money!” Matthew Lee enthusiastically called out.
Having heard this, Cheng Ye naturally wouldn’t waste his kind offer and immediately instructed Wu Rui and the others to drive the SUVs and pickups over to charge.
He himself took out a pendant and also found an interface to plug in.
The charging value, which had returned to zero, began to flicker again, with numbers slowly climbing forward.
At a charging efficiency of 120kW, it would take at least six and a half hours to fill up the current 800 kWh.
Thinking about it, Cheng Ye looked at the already setting sun and simply proposed, “I won’t return to the buffer zone tonight, I’ll stay here with you overnight.”
Matthew Lee readily agreed, “That’s great! We’ll have a good chat tonight, and I want to ask you about Dapo Town’s development ideas!”
Though it wasn’t quite at the level of a tearful reunion, after being apart for more than a month, both had plenty they wanted to discuss.
However, before delving into a deep conversation, Cheng Ye followed Matthew Lee for a stroll around the southern area overseen by Song Hai.
Even with Matthew Lee following him around, Song Hai forced a smile upon seeing Cheng Ye, but couldn’t hide his air of frustration and discontent.
While wandering around Dongping Town’s southern district and introducing the construction situation, Song Hai seemed rather distracted, let alone eager to discuss future development.
“Inspector Song has been continuously attacked by infection sources several times here, with nearly three hundred casualties.”
Walking back to the northern area, Matthew Lee lowered his voice, “Although I haven’t expanded extensively into the surroundings, I’ve still lost about a hundred people…”
